The book is a Near-Fine example—fresh lime-green covers with crisp black-stamped lettering along the spine. Completely free of previous owner inscriptions, names, or bookplates; internally immaculate, tight, and clean all round. Housed in the original, virtually complete dust jacket featuring the distinctive 'Hampton Library' cartouche at the spine base. The jacket remains unclipped, displaying the original 3/6d net price on the inside flap. Shows minor chipping to the spine head, rubbing to the outer panels and edges, and a tiny area of loss at the base of one joint crease with a light associated wrinkle. Rear panel displays minor surface dust only. A solid, copy of this later-series adventure. Note: Biggles sends the Air Police team to the outermost tip of South America—the rugged, freezing archipelago of Tierra del Fuego. Following a mysterious tip-off from Biggles' former Cold War rival, Erich von Stalhein, the team investigates a lost cache of British gold hidden away on a remote island by a German warship during the First World War. To maintain a convincing cover story for local authorities, Biggles pretends to be searching for two missing English botanists, Carter and Barlow. Operating a brand-new amphibious aircraft called the Gadfly, the team battles extreme Antarctic weather and hostile landscape features in a high-stakes race against international opportunists to recover the lost bullion.
