When war came it still relied on its all purpose aircraft the Swordfish ( the 'Stringbag') which in 1940 scored a resounding success in the Battle of Taranto. The author records this aerial battle in detail as well as Cape Matapan, the sinking of the German Battleship BISMARCK and other notable action that involved that branch of the Navy.
