Volume 2 only [of 3], comprising 12 monthly issues, 12mo, pp iv, 428, title within woodcut border, bound in contemporary half calf, red label, worn and cracked at joints, spine ends chipped, but holding well, internally sound but for one corner tear with loss of a few words only on the verso, FIRST EDITION of volume 2 of this rare provincial periodical which ended the following year with a third volume, no more published. ESTC confuses by stating 36 volumes, in fact 35 monthly issues were in all published, originally issued in wrappers, but the volume issues with title page and publisher's address are not mentioned separately. Although Cambridge and UCL have the complete set, even individually they are rare, comprising varied articles of a popular nature, with much local interest, as well including both poetical and mathematical material. Evidence of Stockton's cultural status at this time is testified by Joseph Ritson and his early associations with the town.…
