Ajouter au panier26.0 x 18.0cms 180pp watercolour illusts very good+ hardback & dustwrapper Sumner was a major figure in the Arts & Crafts Movement when he abandoned London and went to the Hampshire countryside. He bought land on the edge of the New Forest and renovated a tumbledown cottage into his ideal home. He documented the process with a handwritten and lavishly illustrated record (c 1904-1909). His grand nephew used this manuscript as the basis for this book.

Ajouter au panierCloth, small 4to, Unpaginated , approximately 60 pp, chiefly of illustrations. From the blurb - "In February 1987 the BBC's QED series broadcast a programme called The Foolish Wise Ones' which studied the effects of autism, that tragic affliction which leaves its sufferers with a perceived mental age of a child and, to all intents and purposes, cut off from the world. However, as the programme proved brilliantly, autistic people are often able to express themselves in a manner which leaves 'normal' people amazed at their talent Stephen Wiltshire, then eleven years old, was shown producing from memory drawings of London buildings, which moved Sir Hugh Casson to judge him 'a wonderfully natural draughtsman, really spectacularly good'. . Stephen's trustees have .granted Dent permission to publish this extraordinary and moving volume which not only contains some of the finest freehand drawings of a brilliant artist, but also produces a powerful argument for re-thinking our policy regarding the 'mentally handicapped'. 'His sense of perspective seems to be faultless. I've never seen in all my competition drawing such a talent, such natural and extraordinary talent that this child seems to have. [Stephen] is possibly the best child artist in Britain.'- Sir Hugh Casson Very Good in Very Good dustwrapper.

Blue boards with silver lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 235 x 154mm. Illustrated. "In the history of early music one of the most pressing yet contentious questions concerns instrumental practice in the performance of medieval song, especially the lyrics of the troubadours and trouveres. [. . .] After examining the place of instruments in the genre-system of medieval song, he discusses stringing and tuning. He describes the instruments and considers pitch, playing-techniques and repertoire. Dr. Page's book throws important new light on his subject and will appeal to listeners and performers, as well as to those interested in the literature and history of the Middle Ages." - from dust-jacket blurb.
