Goods illustrated include fashionable ladies' clothing, clothing for girls and boys, baby clothes, lace & trimmings, linens, umbrellas & parasols, luggage, shoes, sports wear, crockery, silver plated table wear, household ironmongery, and furniture. Barkers began as a small drapery business in 1870. It grew rapidly to become one of London's largest and most well-known department stores. The company played a significant role in establishing Kensington High Street as one of London's principal shopping destinations for most of the twentieth century. Very scarce.

A late to mid 17th century mixture of Biblical and devotional texts, beginning with the Book of Common Prayer, and administration of sacraments, and other rites and ceremonies of the Church, according to the use of the Church of England. Also included is a complete Barker edition of The Holy Bible Co…ntaining the Old Testament and the New, Newly Translated out of Original Tongues, and with the former translations, diligently compared and revised. Complimenting that is A Brief Concordance or Table to the Bible, which is finally followed up with The Whole Book of Psalmes, Collected into English Metre. This volume bears several early provenance inscriptions, but the earliest is dated 1673 for one Hanah Thornbery, and another dated 1723 for Martha Manaton. Interesting to note that both dated inscriptions of ownership were by devout women. This volume most recently belonged to the library collection of Mulberry House, a former rectory of High Ongar church. This volume has been finely bound in contemporary full leather, with beautiful Cambridge panel gilt tooling, as well as a monogram of HT to the center of the covers. There are four silver corner fittings, and two functioning clasps, and the fore-edge also has gilt gauffering. Four works finely bound into one volume in octavo, (17.5 x 11.8 cm), A8-H8, A8-Aaa3, A4-K4, A4-F4 This volume is in very good shape, with some rubbing and wear to the binding, and a bit of leather loss to the head of the spine. The first few leaves have a small corrosion hole to the right-side margin due to the clasps, with a couple of characters being affected. Two of the leaves in the Morning Prayer from the BoCP have been mangled but are still mostly legible. A few of the upper right corners have tiny tears, not impacting text, and many of the lower right corners have tiny dogearing. There is minor soiling and staining throughout, mainly to the right-side margins.

A mid 17th century compilation of four Biblical and liturgical texts, bound together, beginning with the Book of Common Prayer, and administration of sacraments, and other rites and ceremonies of the Church, according to the use of the Church of England. Following that is The Genealogies Recorded in the S…acred Scriptures, which comes with a staggering 34 pages of engraved family trees, all delightfully shown in detail, and the first one bearing a large engraving of Adam and Eve at the center of their family tree. Then there is a complete Barker edition of The Holy Bible containing the Old Testament and the New. Newly translated out of the originall tongues, and with the former diligently compared and revised, by his Maiesties speciall commandement. Lastly, there is a copy of The Whole Book of Psalmes, collected into English Meeter, bound in at the end. The Book of Common Prayer and Bible both have extra detailed engraved title pages. This volume most recently belonged to the library collection of Mulberry House, a former rectory of High Ongar church. Four works in one finely bound volume in small quarto (17.5 x 11 cm), A8-G4, A8-C2, A8-Kkk7, A-A5+92 This volume is in good shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, and the hinges cracked. The BoCP title page is soiled and somewhat frayed at the margins. Leaves Dd4 and Dd5 of the Bible are stained, with a tear and some text loss. There is minor soiling and staining throughout.

Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Very Good. A late 17th century edition of the Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments, being a KJV printed by the Barker Brothers. There are two separate title pages, the first being a decorated, engraved example. Additionally bound is a late 17th century edition of the Book of Common Prayer. There are… several ownership inscriptions, dating back as early as 1732 for one Elizabeth, and one from 1747 for one Liza(?). The last inscription appears to be dated 1822. This volume most recently belonged to the library collection of Mulberry House, a former rectory of High Ongar church. This volume is present in what was once a fine, contemporary leather binding, now worn by poor care and preservation, but with the impression of Cambridge panel tooling still present. There is a rather interesting spine reinforcement that appears to be an early repair attempt, and an ill-fitting silver clasp which has visibly pinched the boards. The fore-edge also shows faint signs of gauffering and gilt. One volume in 32mo (11.7 x 6.2 cm) This volume is in good shape, with rubbing and wear to the binding, heavier to the edges. There is very little foxing or staining throughout.

The Book of Common Prayer includes the Act of Uniformity of Common Prayer, Prayer of thanksgiving for deliverance from massacre by Gun powder; Prayer to be used on the anniversary of the martyr…dom of King Charles the First; Prayer for the birth and return of King Charles. The covers have just light wear and the contents are very well preserved and free of tears etc.
