En este libro se estudia la fijación de la ortografía del castellano a partir del siglo XVIII desde una perspectiva historiográfica. Se atiende en él a la extensión de la norma académica y a las propuestas ortográficas no académicas a uno y otro lado del Atlántico, que dieron lugar a procesos paralelos de oficialización normativa en el siglo XIX.
