Shiny gold paper-covered boards with green lettering on front… panel and spine; a section of the green lettering on the front panel has been rubbed away, though the blind-stamped title remains legible beneath. Mild surface and edge wear. Binding tight. Light damp staining to the green endpapers, which has bled slightly along the edges onto the title page and the following few pages. Interior pages lightly toned with occasional age spotting, otherwise clean and unmarked.A pictorial history of the Ambassador Hotel and its legendary Cocoanut Grove nightclub, written by the hotel's longtime public relations director. Opened in 1921 on Wilshire Boulevard, the Ambassador was Hollywood's pre-eminent social destination for more than four decades, hosting nine Academy Awards ceremonies and the inaugural Golden Globe Awards, welcoming movie stars, heads of state, and royalty, and serving as the site of Robert F. Kennedy's assassination in June 1968. Burk's account draws on her years of insider access and personal acquaintance with the celebrities and luminaries who passed through the hotel's doors. Richly illustrated with photographs; the distinctive green endpapers are printed with facsimile autographs of notable Ambassador guests. Introduction by Adela Rogers St. Johns.
