This is an exceptionally well looked after and well preserved first UK edition (now well over forty years old) of the second of Theroux's celebrated series of travel books. The book is in fine condition. The dark-brown cloth-bound boards are unmarked and there are no scratches or dents. The gilt title lettering and artwork on the spine panel is fresh and bright. The text block is square and tightly bound. The scarlet stain to the top edge (of the text block) remains as strong as ever and all edges are spotless. Internally, the map endpapers and all of the pages are clean and unmarked with the sole exception of a previous resale price written very small on the top right corner of the front free endpaper ; There are no inscriptions nor any other signs of previous ownership. The dust jacket is protected by a plastic protective cover, looks new and the retains its original sheen. The colours of the artwork remain vivid and well defined.
