Ajouter au panierHardcover. Etat : Near Fine. Etat de la jaquette : Near Fine. Jacket by Chris Yates (illustrateur). 1st Edition. First edition, first impression. Some edge wear and chipping to top and bottom of jacket and spine, spine slightly faded, very slight lean, not price clipped (£4.50), no inscriptions, internally clean and tight, overall a vg++ copy. 192pp. The second Brother Cadfael mystery. In the summer of 1138, war between King Stephen and the Empress Maud takes Brother Cadfael from the quiet world of his garden to the bloody battlefield. Not far from the safety of the Abbey walls, Shrewsbury Castle falls, leaving its ninety four defenders loyal to the empress to hang as traitors. With a heavy heart Brother Cadfael agrees to bury the dead, only to make a grisly discovery ninety five bodies lie in a row, and the extra corpse tells Cadfael that the killer is both clever and ruthless. But one death among so many seems unimportant to all but the good Benedictine. He vows to find the truth behind disparate clues, a girl in boys' clothing, a missing treasure, and a single broken flower, the tiny bit of evidence that Cadfael believes can most easily expose a murderer's black heart. Very scarce in this first UK edition.

Ajouter au panierFirst Edition. First Edition. This book is from an RAF base recreational library, as such it does not show the sort of use common with public library books.Original publishers trade binding , green with silver lettering. The dustwrapper has been protected in plastic, now removed, the wrapper is very good with a small tear of about 4mm on the edge of the front fold, the spine is a bit sunned and there is a feint water mark at the base of the spine, otherwise generally very clean, unrubbed, hardly creased and with crisp edges. The book is quite good with the same stamp repeated several times, twice on the front paste down, once on the half title page, once on the first page of chapter one, once on the rear free endpaper and twice on the rear paste down. There are also some brown adhesive stains on the front free endpaper which have seeped out from the dustwrapper protector.otherwise a generally clean and fairly tight copy.
