Repaired, some wear to covers and spine, mainly edges and corners, corners a little bumped and worn, boards showing, spine repaired, original spine replaced with new fabric and remains of original laid on top of the replacement, original title label chipped and worn, internally in good condition, pages crisp and clear but yellowing, some light foxing, all maps present and in good condition, front and rear end papers replaced, neatly and professionally done.

Well Illustrated with Monochrome Plates and Folding Maps. Brown cloth cover with "Pebbled" texture. Gilt Title and Horizontal lines to spine. 898 Pages, 7 3/4" Tall. Closed tears to cloth all down left side of spine and partway down right side. Rear hinge cracked and reinforced with tape. No inscriptions. Pages slightly age darkened but clean. Half-Leather. Etat : Very Good. vi+898p; Illustrated by many maps and several hundred engravings. at least 10 folding maps in clean Vg or fine condition. Many many engravings of towns, ports, harbours, castles etc. bound in half leather with raised bands and titling on spine. Marbled edges and endpapers. Some evidence or repair to the binding but now tight and clean without significant marks or signatures. The spine edges and corners are rubbed. See scans and email for more.

Includes Fold-Out Maps (1 detached). Only a little foxing here and there, most pages are in very good, clean condition. Frontispiece is an Engraving of Liverpool, protected by its Tissue Guard. Gift inscription to Front Endpaper Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Wonderful to see how the world was viewed in 1868. Quite different than today. Distances are 'smaller' now due to different travel methods. Most of spine is cracked and/or missing, but all pages of this 893 page book are intact. (BR) Box 39.

Thick small 8vo. in brick colored cloth stamped in gilt, leather title label letterd in gilt on spine. 698 pp. plus 6 pp. publisher's ads at rear. Illustrated with nearly three hundred full page engravings of ancient, modern, and biblical syies, and with folding maps. Firm in its binding though the hinges are split, some wear and creasing to the spine lable from opening this thick volume. Small ownership stamp on half-title. Interior clean and complete. Affixed to the front pastedown there is a May,1881 dated Queen's Prize presentation bookplate from the Science And Art Department of the Committee Of Council on Education.
