Being a Discourse of Rivers, Fish-ponds, Fish, Fish, and Fishing. II. Instructions how to angle for a Trout or Grayling in a clear Stream. With Draughts of all the Fish; ornamented with a Number of Copper Plates. Notes by Moses Brown. With the Laws that concern Angling. And an appendix which shews the proper Rivers, Haunts, Baits and Seasons and Hours of biting: General Directions &c. for every Fish that is to be angled for. With short Rules relating to Tackle, Baits, several Ways of Angling, and Weather proper and improper for the Sport. xxiv, 340(8)pp. +9ff. 7th edition of Walton, 3rd of Cotton, 2nd of Browne. Published in 1759 by Henry Kent. "Instructions how to angle" hs its own title and frontispiece. The nine copper plates are signed by H. Burgh. Neatly rebacked in contemporary speckled calf boards. Some small cracks down the spine and superficial wear to hinges. Morocco title label and gilt titling is very clear and bright, as is the gilt decoration around the 5 raised bands. Some wear to the corners of the boards and the gilt that decorates the edges of the boards. Some marginal damage inn the form of a small tear at both the upper and lower right corners of the spine. Structurally a tight, strong volume. Red ownership monogram in upper right corner of title page. Some almost negligible worm damage from the frontispiece through to page 11, mostly a very small hole or slit that only slightly obscures just a word or two of the text. Like just a small needle hole to the frontispiece and full title page. All text and illustrations clear and in good condition. A very good, pleasing copy of a wonderful and seminal book.
