Decorated card covers with the full series titles on the front panel, and the three-page foreword by Grainger printed on the other three sides of each cover; short sealed tear to the first front cover, small light splash mark to the second front cover, and a few creases to the third front cover; trifling signs of handling; overall in excellent condition. George Percy Grainger (1882-1961), the Australian-born musician and composer, is well known for his work in collecting folk music and experimentation with early electronic instruments. (Authoritative biographical dictionaries and other references record him under 'George Percy Grainger' and not 'Percy Aldridge Grainger', as shown on these three publications. Aldridge was his mother's maiden name.) The front cover of each of these three volumes is signed and dated (October 1944) by him, with a warm personal inscription in each case, respectively 'To dear Harry, with love from his friend Percy'; 'To dear Harry, in boundless admiration from Percy'; and 'To Harry, in tonal fellowship from Percy'. The recipient is Harry Seitz, supervisor of music and conductor of the choir at the New Central School, Detroit, Michigan.
