Past owner's pencil signature "C.R. Stark" at front pastedown's top left (Christopher Randolph Stark, 1880-1971, was a professor of mathematics at Mississippi State University for fifty-five years); illegible/faded antiquarian ink writing on front free endpaper; mostly mild toning/foxing throughout with strongest occurrences to book's b/w plates and their adjacent pages. Binding remains firm.

Volumes 1 and 2 are bound into older full calf, volume 3 in 1/2 leather with marble boards and a more modern spine. Prefaced with a life of the author.
