"He produced over 600 woodblock prints during a career spanning almost 40 years. Hasui is most closely associated with the pioneering Shinhanga publisher Watanabe Shozaburo [1885-1962], who sought to re-vitalise the tradition of Japanese woodblock prints as epitomized in the works of the famous 19th-century landscape artists Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hirshige." 2 volumes, 4to (12 x 10"), v.1 271pp, v.2 600pp, blue cloth with embossed title at spine and front, written in Japanese and English, color and b&w illustrations throughout. Original color dj on both volumes. Housed in a blue cloth slipcase with red Japanese characters and decoration on spine/front. Slipcase marked by damp, books and dj in fine condition.
