Cream cloth binding, black lettering and decoration to front board and spine. Marking and scuffing to binding. Signs of wear, a little rubbing at edges and on hinges. Slightly bumped corners. A little slackness to binding but contents reasonably firm. Page edges browned, scuffed, foxed and otherwise marked. Marking to endpapers, occasional foxing, thumbing and other marking to page surfaces but otherwise clean, no underlining, marginalia, etc. See pictures for further information. 188 pp. Circa 1914-5. n.

Cream cloth boards with dark green titles and decoration to the spine. Includes illustrations, numerous colour plates and a frontispiece portrait of King Albert, 188 pages. Undated circa 1914. The book includes tributes from royalty, statesmen, scientists, artists, and composers of the day. Published in aid of the Belgium fund. Special Birthday Edition includes a separate plate of King Albert and Queen Elisabeth in a brown envelope measuring 21cm x 27cm. There is just a hint of foxing. A small insert on the first page reads: "Mr. Hall Caine's Happy Idea. If the purchaser of this book will sign the above Birthday salutation and forward it to Mr Hall Caine at the office of the Daily Telegraph, Fleet Street, London, E.C., it will be inserted in a large Birthday volume, which it will be Mr. Hall Caine's honour and pleasure to present, in conjunction with the proprietors of The Daily Telegraph, to the King of the Belgians.
