Ajouter au panierHardback. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Fine. First Edition. THE LEGACY OF ARTHUR'S CHESTER Robert B. stoker. Covenant Publishing, London. 1965 First edition 156pp Hardback. This copy is ex libris (British Army Western Command Education library) with usual stamps the unclipped dust wrapper is protected with clear protective film. Chester was founded as a "castrum" or Roman fort with the name Deva Victrix, during the reign of the Emperor Vespasian in AD79. One of the three main army camps in the Roman province of Britannia, Deva later became a major civilian settlement. In 689, King Æthelred of Mercia founded the Minster Church of West Mercia, which later became Chester's first cathedral, and the Saxons extended and strengthened the walls, much of which remain, to protect the city against the Danes. Chester was one of the last cities in England to fall to the Normans. William the Conqueror ordered the construction of a castle, to dominate the town and the nearby Welsh border. In this book the author raises King Arthur from a legendary figure to an historical one fighting battles in Lancashire and the North. Ref LL5.

A very clean very tight copy with bright unmarked turquoise cloth boards and no bumping to corners. Dust jacket not price clipped or torn or creased with small mark to front. 156pp. A controversial study in which the author provides his unearthed evidence that Chester was the GHQ and military capital of the Romans in Britain and that Chester became an Archbishopric 400 years before Canterbury and then the capital of Wales. He shows how and why history books have concealed these facts and thus raises King Arthur from a legendary figure to an historical one fighting battles in Lancashire and the North.
