Thompson, a cultured gentlemen of London, who himself supervised the education of his two daughters-Alice, who achieved fame as a poet when in 1875 at the age of twenty, she published her first volume of poems and won high encomiums from such men as Ruskin, Rossetti, Frances Thompson and Coventry Patmore; the second daughter, who became Lady Butler, was a noted artist." Dark blue publisher's boards with gilt tooling and title to the spine. Rough cut pages have a little spotting; very minor; a little more so to the prelims and odd spot to text block. Boards are in much better condition than would be expected for its age; spine ends have hardly any wear and corners are sharp. Condition is very good plus. John Sargent's drawing of the poet as frontispiece. Split into three sections; Early, Later and Last Poems. Although now mostly remembered for her poetry, Alice Meynell had a Bohemian background and was also a critic and suffragette.
