The book is designed to reflect the unique camaraderie, traditions, and culture of Australian sailors from the early days of the RAN through the Korean War. Content and Themes: The book serves as a "memorable supporting volume" to Nesdale's earlier work on World War II corvettes, capturing the voices and memories of those who served. Life at Sea: It documents daily routines, training, and challenges across various ship sizes, emphasizing qualities such as initiative, courage, and loyalty. Wartime Exploits: A significant portion is dedicated to World War II service, including a specific chapter reserved for the "courageous band" of coastwatchers active during 1942 and 1943. Narrative Style: The "dits" (naval slang for stories or tales) range from humorous anecdotes to insightful accounts of adversity and hardship, intended to evoke memories for naval readers and provide an authentic glimpse for others. Post-War Service: Includes stories from the Korean War in the early 1950s, bridging the gap between historical eras of the RAN. The volume is an accessible record featuring extensive documentation and visual aids (numerous black-and-white photographs, facsimiles, and portraits). It contains a glossary of naval terms, a ship and name index, and a bibliography for further research. Signed by Author(s).…
