Evidence of early herbal remediation dates back over 4,000 years ago; examples include the Chinese Empire (2800 BCE), Babylon (1770 BCE), and Ancient Egypt (1550 BCE). Islamic and Indian physicians also wrote many works prior to 1100 AD and the seals from the Harappan site in Pakistan (2000 BC) also indicate the use of plants. The first step in quality control of botanical preparations is ensuring the correct identification of the plant intended for use. While there are several methods for identification, the most direct and least expensive is macroscopic identification. The foliar epidermis is one of the most striking taxonomic characteristics from the biosystematic point of view, and the taxonomic studies of a number of families are made on the basis of the leaf epidermis. The role of anatomical data in traditional taxonomy has been long recognized since the variations within the species, genera or a family is usually reflected in anatomical features as well. Leaf epidermal anatomical features such as stomata, trichomes and other characteristics are useful identification tools. Such characteristics in plants show great diversity and could be very effective for the resolution of existing taxonomic problems of medicinal plant species.…

In this experiment laccase production was investigated using submerged fermentation. The effects of variations in the media nutrient composition or culture conditions were provided to increase the production of laccase at laboratory level. The conditions for maximum production of Laccase by G. lucidum have been optimized in shake flask studies. The parameters like temperature, pH, Inoculum size and Incubation period were studied. Maximum Laccase activity was obtained at 25°C (11.852U/ml) and 6 pH (12.077U/ml). In case of Inoculum size and incubation period 5 discs and 7 days were optimum parameters for maximum laccase activity (12.410U/ml) and (12.635U/ml) respectively.…

Schard and vendle. (kantakari) .The crude extracts of powdered plant material were obtained in various polar and nonpolar solvents viz: petroleum ether, chloroform, methanol and distilled water. Well defined zones of inhibition were recorded indicating that solanum xanthocarpum was potent against pathogenic fungus i.e. A. niger, A. flavus, A. candidus, A.parasiticus. The chloroform extract of whole plant showed significant inhibitory zone against Aspergillus niger . Comparatively the other extracts of whole plant were not more active against the other fungal strains. Standard antimicrobial discs: Fuconazole and Ketoconazole were used to test their antifungal potential and the discs showed remarkable zones of inhibition against the fungal strains which are at some extent comparable with the plant extract values.…

The physical parameters namely, pH, Temperature, Incubation period, Inoculum size were studied for the higher Laccase enzyme production. The optimum pH for the both biomass and laccase production was found to be pH 5.0 which shows the maximum (12.88 U/ml) laccase activity and pH 10.0 shows the minimum (5.86 U/ml) laccase activity. Of the different temperature (15 oC, 20 oC up to 40 oC) tested for the optimal laccase production 25 oC showed the maximum (11.52 U/ml) laccase activity, while 40 oC shows the minimum laccase activity (4.21 U/ml). Among the different incubation period 7 days supported maximum laccase activity (12.78 U/ml) and 10 days shows minimum laccase activity (5.20 U/ml), while four discs (appx. 12mm) supported the maximum activity (11.80 U/ml) and seven discs shows the minimum laccase activity (5.53 U/ml). The above result indicates that the Coriolus versicolor can be used as a biotechnological tool.…
