The first forty-eight plates form pairs, each pair showing one composition in two manners of representation. In Pitteri Piazzetta had one of the most able etchers of his chalk drawings. Pitteri adopts Faldoni's method of etching long parallel lines and by selectively exaggerating their raggedness imbues them with great subtlety. The book is a tribute from Albrizzi to Piazzetta, who had provided illustrations for more than sixty of Albrizzi's publications, most famously the Gerusalemme Liberata of 1745.…
