Text, 12 Tafeln Die Mappe ist leicht berieben, ansonsten ein sehr gutes und sauberes Exemplar ohne Anstreichungen. - (Auszug:) Depressionszustände sind eine nahezu universelle Erscheinung. Sie lassen sich entsprechend den Reak- tionen, die der einzelne Mensch auf seine Schwierig- keiten zeigt, an verschiedenen Zeichen und Sym- ptomen erkennen. Die Reaktionen wiederum hängen ab von der betreffenden Persönlichkeit, den mitspie- lenden Faktoren und jeweiligen Begleitumständen. Wenn es sich um eine Depression pathologischer Natur handelt, bietet ihre Klassifikation gewisse Schwierig- keiten, da sie entweder weitgehend endogen oder vor- wiegend eine Reaktion auf äußere Umstände sein kann. Die Depression kann flüchtig oder von langer Dauer, tief oder oberflächlich sein, und schließlich kann sie die Vorstufe oder Folge anderer Krankheiten sein. So hat sich die merkwürdige Tatsache ergeben, daß der Ausdruck Depression einmal als nosologischer Sammelbegriff für eine Gruppe psychischer Erkran- kungen gebraucht wird, dann als Beschreibung einer Häufung von Symptomen oder Syndromen und daß er schließlich ein Einzelsymptom einer psychischen Stö- rung bezeichnet. Dies mag für jene, die auf dem Gebiet der medizinischen Psychologie tätig sind, selbstver- ständlich sein, dürfte aber wohl andere verwirren, deren Interesse weniger ausgesprochen diesem Gebiet gilt. Bei den pathologischen Depressionen werden z. B. endogene, reaktive und agitierte Formen unter- schieden. Endogene Depression ist psychotisch und tritt oft als Phase einer manisch-depressiven Psychose auf. Anderseits wird die reaktive Depression öfters als psychogen oder neurotisch betrachtet, als eine Reaktion auf traumatische Erlebnisse. Agitierte De- pression ist meistens eine psychotische Involutions- reaktion. Obwohl in ihren typischen Formen leicht zu erkennen, sind die drei Arten an ihren Über- schneidungspunkten schwer voneinander zu unter- scheiden. Dies gibt Anlaß zu Diskussionen über die Frage, ob jede der drei Arten ihr eigenes klinisches Bild aufweise. Für die Beschreibung der vorliegenden Bilder erübrigt es sich, dieses Problem weiter zu verfolgen. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 250.

From the 1940s onwards he has maintained an interest in the practice of art and today, at the age of ninety-one, holds a collection of 'psychiatric art' that consists largely of pieces produced by patients in Melbourne's psychiatric hospitals since 1955. In this collection are approximately 9000 drawings, paintings, embroideries and models. Currently housed in the Mental Health Research Institute in Melbourne, it is open to the public by appointment and regularly visited by medical students. It is also displayed, on request, for community education about mental illness.'
