This is considered the very first Belgian book ever devoted entirely to funeral rites and mourning traditions, combining medi…cal, cultural, anthropological, and theological perspectives on death in the mid-19th century. This particular copy is of outstanding importance: it includes a handwritten note/inscription by the author himself (Dr. Bauwens, Brussels, 1848) on the preliminary leaf.
