From Gloucester to the South Pacific by way of the Panama Canal, then to South East Asia, the Indian Ocean, Cape of Good Hope, then across the Atlantic back to Gloucester. Illustrated with photographs.

Heavy cracking to rear hinge. Pencil inscription to half title page. Boards have mild edgewear with corner crushing and notable marking and foxing to boards. Heavy sunning bands to boards. Heavy tanning to spine, which has mild crushing to ends. Book has forward lean. Boards are mildly warped. Moderate water stains to front board and spine.

A beautiful illustration of the voyage is included from the front pastedown. Numerous lovely black and white photographs included throughout. Some warping to boards. Considerable scuffing and marking to the boards, with wear to the edges. Wear and discolouration of the spine. A few soft markings in pen to the upper spine. Wear, bumping and softening to the spine ends and corners. Otherwise, the page block, despite some minor toning is firm and tight. Whilst there is wear to the exterior of the book, the pages are clean and unmarked. Overall a Hardback in Fair condition, with numerous lovely photographs in black and white.

HARDCOVER. 1939. First edition. A very good copy in edge rubbed blue cloth boards with silver gilt lettering to the front panel and spine. The spine is slightly faded and there is a short tear to the head of the spine. The edges of the text block and endpapers are age tanned otherwise the contents are very clean and the binding is excellent. This copy has been inscribed and SIGNED by both Irving and Electa Johnson to the title page. Scans available if required.

The Johnsons circumnavigated the world seven times on two vessels, both named Yankee, each trip with a new crew and each taking approximately 18 months. The first Yankee, bought in 1933, was a Dutch North Sea pilot schooner. Before becoming an actor, Sterling Hayden served as mate aboard the first Yankee. In protective Mylar.
