Very Good with some light handling wear and a few light creases along the edges.

Early novel by the German writer Heinrich Hauser (1901-1955), with preface by his friend Liam O'Flaherty. (Hauser also translated two of O'Flaherty's books into German.) Bitter Waters (original Brackwasser) won the Gerhart Hauptmann Prize in 1929. It tells the tale, full of realism, of a young sailor who sails along the Gulf coast of Mexico, marries hispanic girl in Tampico, and their life and troubles on a farm back in northern Germany.

    Shooting script for the 1958 British film. Annotation in manuscript ink of copy number "64" on front wrapper. Laid in are two loose pink revision pages and 36 bound pink revision pages. Based on the 1957 novel by Catherine Cookson. John Gregson, in a memorable performance, stars as Dublin trash collector James Ignatius Rooney, who competes as a Gaelic sportsman on the weekends. Set in and shot on location in Dublin, Ireland. Tall blue titled wrappers, noted as SHOOTING SCRIPT on the front wrapper. Title page present, dated 13th August, 1957, with credits for author Catherine Cookson and screenwriter Patrick Kirwan. 113 leaves, with last page of text numbered 112. Mimeograph duplication, rectos only, with pink revision pages laid in, one undated, one dated 21.11.57 and 36 dated 2.9.57. Thin card folder with a typesscript held by string at the to punched holes of the spine. 14 inches by 8. 24 recto pages, headed 'Dialogue Sheets' i.e. the dialogue of the film without scenes or directions. The script pages are clean and sound, the buff covers is somewhat used and chipped with the title written in ink on the front. The 1940 movie directed by Walter Summers was based on the book Edgar Wallace - it tells the story of Scotland Yard inspector Larry Holt (Hugh Williams) who is asked to investigate the case of five bodies that have been found in The Thames apparently drowned, during the last eight months, The investigation takes him to the Greenwich Insurance Co with whom many of the dead held policies. This is run by Feodor Orloff (Bela Lugosi), a former doctor who was driven out of his profession and deemed insane by many of his colleagues. Clues lead Holt to Dearborn's Home for the Destitute Blind where each of the policy holders have made charitable donations upon Orloff's request. There Holt comes to believe that each policy holder is being murdered for their money.

    Draft script for the 1959 film, seen here under the working title "The Big Birthday." Copy belonging to producer Alec Snowden, with his name in manuscript ink on several leaves, and his extensive annotations in manuscript pencil and ink on virtually every page (and many page versos as well). Bound in before and after the script are approximately 50 production documents, including crew contact sheets, shooting schedules, post-production notes, and documents regarding soundtrack. Laid in with the script is a promotional booklet for Ireland-based production studio Ardmore Studios. Based on Hugh Leonard's 1956 play "The Big Birthday," about a BBC producer's troubled attempts to make a documentary about an Irish supercentenarian's upcoming birthday. Actor Barry Fitzgerald's final film. Set in Ireland. Housed in a tall blue spring binder. Lacking title page, presumably as issued. 96 leaves, with last page of text numbered 82.
