Ajouter au panierSoft cover. Etat : Good. 1st Edition. Selected Poems, William Blocksidge, pub. Gordon and Gotch, Brisbane, 1919. Octavo. 165 pp. Grey paper wrappers, with a couple of marks, stains, and chipping to the edges, some paper loss to the spine, and the rear cover is faded with spotting. Foxing to the endpapers. A few pages with slight… dog-earing at the foot. The book is now in a protective acetate sleeve. Blocksidge (also known as Baylebridge) [1883-1942] was a recluse and a controversial proponent of proto-Fascist sentiment. 'Selected Poems' was his first Australian-published work, after an extensive sojourn in Europe where his first works were published.

Ajouter au panierSoft Cover. Etat : Fine. Etat de la jaquette : None, as Issued. First Edition. 288pp. Or gray card. A near perfect copy- unread, unopened and uncut. No doubt at all that this is the best surviving copy. Published in an edition of only 100 copies and not reprinted until the colected works of 1963. A sustained feat of story tellin…g in prose by one of Australia's major poets. Its theme is the Gallipoli Campaign of 1915. Using the Chaucerian device of a band of story-tellers, Blocksidge has nine Gallipoli veterans each tell their stories. Blocksidge was an Australian writer, poet and political theorist. In 1925 changed his name to Baylebridge and consciously cultivated the air of a mysterious and reclusive prophet-poet. This involved not only the archaic style of his poetry and prose, but also his eschewing of all forms of conventional publicity. While acclaimed as a poet of the highest order he is largely forgotten now, due in the main to his shunning of publicity. Of some literary importance and extremely scarce. Size: 8vo.
