I analyze whether the effectiveness of a country's Securities regulation, Investors protection, corporate Tax rate and the effective corporate T…ax rate are systematically related to cross-country differences in the Cost of Capital. I estimate the firms' implied Cost of Capital for the year 2005 using the Target Price model implemented by Botosan and Plumlee (2005), and the Price Earnings Growth model (PEG-model) implemented by Easton(2005). My results support the research hypothesis and the conclusion that firms from countries with, stronger securities regulation, stronger investors' protection, higher corporate tax rate and higher effective tax rate have a significantly lower cost of capital. However, the security regulation variable was not significantly, but negatively related to the Cost of Capital when I included the control variables of firms' Size and the book-to-market value ratio into the estimation model. This book is value relevant for several investors, stakeholders and firms with common share issue and management making decisions. 68 pp. Englisch.

The core limitation imposed by MTCR is on proliferation of high propulsion ballistic missiles an…d related technology. It strictly limits the export of missiles capable of delivering a 500 kilogram payload to a 300-kilometer distance, otherwise known as 500kg/300km standard. MTCR also sets clear rules regarding the export behaviour of its member countries. The export limits guiding interaction among non-member countries apply equally to MTCR members. However, little attention has been paid to whether or not MTCR members indeed abide by MTCR rules.Taking into consideration the fact that missile defense uses the same technology as offensive missiles, this work is dedicated to understanding whether joint missile defense development programs between the United States and her allies might undermine the principles and rules of MTCR and therefore potentially contribute to the proliferation of ballistic missiles and related technology. 96 pp. Englisch.

However, developing… countries that are blessed with natural resources are, paradoxically and with a few exceptions, likely to experience slow economic growth, repress their people and suffer from frequent conflict. This research paper discusses if and how the discovery and extraction of natural resources in Sudan has affected the motivation and dynamics of the country's violent civil conflicts. By using resource curse theory together with conflict theory and empirical data from Sudan, this paper argues that natural resources have had strong aggravating effects on the country's conflicts. These effects have been both direct (through changing the economic means and motivations behind the conflicts) and indirect (through the mechanisms of the resource curse). 96 pp. Englisch.
