The ALS, also dated "8.1.97", is one-sided, with "P.S." spilling over to verso, & includes the author's address label affixed to upper corner. The letter contains details pertaining to the book, plus personal matters. Additionally, the author has hand-corrected a name in the printed index at rear. The recipient of the book & letter is Australian Ambassador Lloyd D. Thomson, this copy from his library. Diplomat Lloyd Thomson (1919-2015) was the first Australian Ambassador to the Holy See (Vatican) (1973-74, 1980-83), & resident outside Italy at other Australian diplomatic posts, including the Netherlands (The Hague), Ireland (Dublin), the UN in Switzerland (Geneva), plus Head of Mission with the Department of Foreign Affairs, along with other diplomatic posts. Lloyd Thomson was also involved in the theatre as a playwright, actor & producer, notably co-writing the Australian musical The Sentimental Bloke (to the poetry of C.J. Dennis). Illustrated with 21 b&w photographs. Includes index. From rear cover: "Harold Marshall was born in Adelaide, but his roots and 'soul' were planted in the hard terrain of Broken Hill". Paperback wide octavo, good condition, stapled pamphlet (covers LOOSE & little torn repaired at single staple), tyoewritten text, few black & white text-photos at rear, maps (including two fold-outs at rear), few edge tears overs (slight loss bottom corner tip rear cover), some edgewear. 43 pp. This small booklet by Jack Viccars is the history of the New Guinea Survey Section, December 1941 - July 1942, and later known as 8th Aust Field Survey Section A.I.F., January - March 1943. The Annexes contain: Nominal Roll; Outline of the Members; Photos; and Maps. A good way to learn about the importance of surveys in a dangerous part of Australian military history. Another revised copy [our 41394A] states that this history was conceived during the Victoria Survey Association Reunion of November 1984, and was printed by the Survey Corps and launched at the November 1987 reunion with Brig L. Fitzgerald and Brig D. Macdonald. (ISBN not in booklet, assigned later. No date, but 1987 stated in another copy [our item 41394A]. 43 pages + 18 unnumbered pages as four annexes.). .

Paperback quarto, very good condition, stapled pamphlet, green card covers, black & white text-photos, maps, documents, minor edgewear, ownerâs written name inside front cover. 44 pp. Julie V. Arbalis writes about the village of Tarogo and its sister village Lake Bathurst which are situated on the Southern Tablelands about one hour (75km) from Canberra and 25 minutes (27km) from Goulburn, on the eastern side of Lake George. The area is mainly sheep grazing country. The climate is temperate with moist winters and dry summers. Both villages were officially founded in 1827, although the Lake itself was named by James Meehan in 1819. The author completed this book as a semester of University work, while studying for a BA. It is not a definitive historical tome, but a collection of many bits of information about the area. (No date, but 2006, Trove. No ISBN in booklet.).
