The book is generally marked throughout and has been heavily used, Front and rear endpapers missing. Bound in contemporary quarter leather with marbled paper covered boards. Corners heavily rubbed and two corners of the front board missing. Externally a very poor copy although everything is still hanging together well. Modern (1940) gift inscription on front pastedown. Two early owner names (T C Murdoch & F. M. Murdoch) inked opposite "Mary Cunningham" inked at top of title page. Yet another owner mark, "J.E." (presumed ownership initials) gilt on spine. Thumbed, page corners creased from readers, well used and passed from one owner to another. Boards. First published in 1773, this cookbook has gone through several revisions. In the advertisement for this edition, MacIver notes that friends suggested adding her ideas for menus suitable for various size groups.
